Book directly through
sfbiketours.com — just click "Book Now" or use the availability calendar. Our website always has the best prices. You can also call us at
415-890-2453 or email
info@sfbiketours.com. For custom private tours,

Should I book on your website or via Airbnb / Viator?
Book directly on
our website — it's cheaper because platforms like Airbnb and Viator charge us a 20–30% commission. You also get better communication, flexible cancellation, and direct support from our team.
Do tours and rentals start and end at the same place?
Yes. Everything begins and ends at our shop at
618 Shrader Street in Haight-Ashbury — one of SF's coolest neighborhoods to explore before or after your ride.
What's the best way to get to your shop?
Public transit: The N-Judah Muni line stops two blocks away. From Fisherman's Wharf, take the F-line to the N-Judah (~35 min).
Rideshare: Lyft, Uber, and Waymo all work great.
Driving: We recommend the Kezar Lot at 825 Stanyan St — a 5-minute walk with all-day parking.
Where should I park if I'm driving?
Street parking is limited to 2 hours. We recommend the Kezar Lot at 825 Stanyan St — a 5-minute walk from our shop with all-day parking available.
Is it safe to ride a bike in San Francisco?
Yes — SF is one of the safest cities in the U.S. for cycling, with extensive bike infrastructure, dedicated lanes, and low-speed zones. Our tours follow the safest, most scenic routes with a guide leading the way.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, and layers — SF weather changes quickly, especially near the coast. We recommend pants, long sleeves, a sweater, and a light jacket.
Do I need to bring a helmet?
No — MIPS-certified helmets are included with every tour and rental at no charge. You're welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
What should I do before or after the ride?
Explore the Haight-Ashbury! Our neighborhood has SF's grandest Victorian architecture, legendary vinyl shops, boutiques, and great food. We'll give you our favorite local recommendations.
What makes Dandyhorse the best bike tour in San Francisco?
We're SF's top-rated bike tour company — a small, locally-owned operation where guides are expert storytellers (avg 15+ years in SF), groups are tiny (max 9 people), and every rider gets a wireless earpiece for live narration you won't find anywhere else.
What's included in a bike tour?
Every tour includes a premium electric bike, MIPS helmet, lock, wireless earpiece for live guide narration, an SF map/guide, and a pastry from a local bakery.
How do the wireless earpieces work?
Our exclusive wireless earpieces connect you to your guide throughout the entire ride. You'll hear rich storytelling, history, and live commentary at every stop — even when you're spread out on the road. No other SF tour company offers this.
Are the tours suitable for beginners?
Our tours are physically easy (thanks to electric bikes) but require basic cycling confidence — you should be comfortable riding on streets, including some hills. If you haven't ridden recently, we recommend practicing on a
Bay Area Bikes rental first.
How many people are on each tour?
Public tours have 4–8 people, with an absolute max of 9 — by far the smallest group size of any bike tour in SF. This means more personal attention, better stories, and a more relaxed pace.
How long do the tours last?
Public tours run about 3–4 hours, including stops for sightseeing, photos, and stories.
Private tours can be customized from 2 to 6+ hours.
Do tours stop at major landmarks?
Yes — tours include stops at the Golden Gate Bridge, Alamo Square's "Painted Ladies," Golden Gate Park, and more. Each stop comes with in-depth stories you won't hear on other tours.
Can I bring my own bike on a tour?
Yes, you're welcome to bring your own electric bike. The tour price stays the same, as it covers guide services, earpiece, insurance, and support — not just the bike.
Can I customize a bike tour?
Public tours follow set routes and stops. For a customized experience, book a
private tour — we'll tailor the route, stops, pace, and duration to your interests.
What happens if I'm late for my tour?
Please contact us as soon as possible. We'll do our best to accommodate you, but depending on timing, the group may have already departed.
What makes Dandyhorse the best choice for bike rentals?
Four things other rental shops don't offer: GPS self-guided tours included with turn-by-turn navigation and audio commentary, premium e-bikes (not old clunkers), a starting location in the Haight (not Fisherman's Wharf), and personal service from a small, locally-owned team.
What's included with every rental?
Every rental includes a premium bike, MIPS-certified helmet, extra-sturdy U-lock, front basket, phone mount, and access to our GPS self-guided tours with audio stops. Multi-day rentals include a portable charger.
What are your rental rates?
Regular bikes: $45 full day, $30 half day.
Electric bikes: $69 full day, $55 half day.
Multi-day discounts available. See full pricing on our
rentals page.
Do I need to reserve in advance?
Walk-ins are welcome, but we strongly recommend booking online — especially on weekends and during peak season. Booking guarantees your preferred bike and we'll have everything ready when you arrive.
Can I rent for multiple days?
Yes — we offer multi-day, weekly, and monthly rentals with discounted rates.
Contact us for long-term pricing.
What are your hours?
Thursday–Monday, 9 AM – 6 PM (latest rental at 4 PM). Closed Tuesday/Wednesday in the off-season. Check our
Google listing for the latest hours.
Is a deposit required?
Short-term (up to one week): No deposit. We require a credit card on file, signed rental agreement, and valid government ID.
Multi-week/monthly: A refundable security deposit is required.
Do you offer damage insurance?
Yes — we offer accidental damage insurance for a small fee. Note that no bike rental company in the world covers theft, so always lock up properly.
What if I get a flat tire?
Just call or text us — we'll get you rolling again. Our team provides roadside support and can deliver a replacement bike if needed.
Are your bikes good for riding to the Golden Gate Bridge?
Absolutely — it's one of the most popular routes. Our e-bikes make it effortless, even up the hills. We include a GPS route with navigation, audio stops, and best photo spots.
What routes do you recommend?
We have 5 GPS-guided routes with turn-by-turn directions:
All-City SF — parks, waterfront, and neighborhoods. A full-day epic.
SF → Sausalito — the iconic local route over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Golden Gate Park & Beaches — through the park to Ocean Beach on the car-free Great Highway.
Golden Gate Park & the Bridge — through the park, Land's End, and the bridge with a Presidio return.
Golden Gate Bridge (short) — the quickest out-and-back via the Presidio.
More details on our
rentals page.
Can I take the bike on the ferry?
Yes — you can take our bikes on the ferry to/from Sausalito or Tiburon. It's a popular option. Just check the ferry schedule and fares in advance.
Can I drop the bike off at a different location?
Currently, all bikes need to be returned to our Shrader Street shop. We'll recommend great routes back so you can see cool stuff along the way — and our Haight-Ashbury neighborhood has tons to do, shop, and eat when you're done.
Do I need to store the bike inside overnight?
Yes — for multi-day rentals, the bike must be stored indoors overnight. Almost every hotel and Airbnb in SF has secure bike storage on request. This protects you from having to pay for a stolen bike.
Why choose a private tour?
Private tours offer a fully customizable, exclusive experience. You choose the route, pace, and focus — whether it's iconic landmarks, hidden neighborhoods, food stops, or a mix. 100% of the guide's attention is on your group. Ideal for families, celebrations, and corporate events.
